                   Consumer Information – Personal Lines Rate Comparisons

In accordance with KRS 304.13-081 the Kentucky Department of Insurance is creating an insurance rate comparison database. The department’s goal is to make the database as current and accurate as possible by updating it as often as necessary.

Therefore, in accordance with KRS 304.13-061, KRS 304.13-051, 806 KAR 14:005, and the attached order, the Department is amending Bulletin 97-4 to require insurers to include a rate comparison update with every personal auto and homeowners rate and rule filing. Three copies of the enclosed Shopper’s Guide Rate Comparison forms must be included with each filing. The original SG-1 or SG-2 must be included with the original rate or rule filing, a second copy must be included with the full duplicate copy set, and the third copy must accompany the entire filing for data input/entry.

It is the department’s hope that this new procedure will minimize the cumbersome ad hoc requests for rate comparison data made by the department in the past. At the same time, Kentucky constituents will benefit from current rate comparison information. It will continue to be published on the department’s internet web site (http://doi.ppr.ky.gov) from which a hard copy may be printed.

This procedure shall be effective for rates and rules effective July 1, 1999.

As the reasonable costs of this consumer information system are determined, they will be equitably assessed in accordance with the statute.
